how to understand fixed effects vs. random effects?
You might want to consider your question in terms of someone who is considering replicating an experimental design.
More specifically, suppose Joe conducted a study involving Repeated Measures (N = 10 subjects , k = 3 levels) where the subjects are on a proposed diet plan and Joe was checking their weight over a 3 month time period.
Now, if you're from Sweden and want to replicate Joe's study, then what you would do is use the same 3 months (Fixed), but your're not going to use same subjects (Random) as Joe did in his orginal design.
